Sausage Cheddar Bites: A Go-To Appetizer!

Ok, if  you are looking for another appetizer to add to your Easter menu, you’ve got to try these Sausage Cheddar Bites. If Deviled Eggs are my must-have Easter traditon, then these are my brother’s. And I tell my kids, you better act fast if you want any because their uncle just pulls himself right up to the platter as if it’s his own plate!

Sausage Cheddar Bites | The Preserves Project

Easy to put together, only a few ingredients, and quick to bake, these Sausage Cheddar Bites will quickly become a go-to appetizer for you. They’re great for a brunch, but savory enough to work as an app for any time of day. They look great on a simple platter and you can serve them with toothpicks…delicious both hot from the oven or at room temp.

A key to this recipe’s simplicity is that it starts with Bisquick! The version we’ll make for Easter this weekend uses breakfast sausage and cheddar cheese. But you can easily give these Sausage Cheddar Bites a spicy Mexican flair with the addition of cumin, chilies and Mexican cheese like Julie does over at Julie’s Eats & Treats. Or switch out the sausage for chorizo and add corn like this recipe on the Betty Crocker website.

Give these a try and let me know what you think, and let me know if you decide to try one of the other versions. Share a pic with #thepreservesproject if you serve these this weekend.  I’d love to hear what some of your go-to appetizers are in the comments below!

Hi! You can make the balls and then place in the freezer, unbaked. When ready, bake from frozen about 20 mins or until browned. Enjoy!

Neat expansion of sausage balls. The celery and onions seem like a great compliment and great bite.

This is my favorite quick last minute party recipe! They’re always a hit. They’re just as delicious the next morning with a drizzle of maple syrup! I haven’t tried it with the onion and celery – I’ll try it that way next time.

These look amazing. We usually cook ours with eggs instead of Bisquick, but I want to try this take on it as well!

Sausage Balls were one of my favorite appetizers of all time when I was a kid, and these are like the fancy grown-up version of those. Can’t wait to give them a try. Looks delicious! 🙂
